Adding UPES Resins Add Value

Thermoformers and compounders (including foam, film and masterbatch producers) around the world leverage the unique, tailorable properties of UPES resins to improve material and process efficiency, product performance and overall sustainability. Collaborating closely with these customers, our Design Team helps them develop innovative solutions and products that lead to a competitive advantage in their markets.

Thermoforming Applications

In thermoforming applications, UPES resin enables customers to create better performing, more cost-effective packaging solutions that provide higher margins and support sustainability goals. Key benefits include:

Sustainability — enhanced processability and efficiency; up to 20% material source reduction; energy savings; recyclable end product and decreased environmental impact

Performance — improvement in difficult–to–mold parts; stronger, thinner and stiffer packaging solutions

Cost — savings related to downgauging, more efficient machine usage, and better performance, with no new equipment required

Foam

Our foam customers have found that UPES resin provides them with the ability to modify the rheological properties of the foaming materials - allowing the formulation to achieve lower densities without sacrificing physical properties.

Sustainability – material source and density reduction; energy savings; reduced environmental impact, including less use of toxic materials

Performance – UPES resin in polyethylene foams allows reduction in density and elongation, improved tensile and tear strength, and more; improvements in stiffness, temperature range, melt strength, adhesion and other properties lead to lighter, stronger end products

Cost – savings related to density reduction and increased productivity

Masterbatch Applications

Masterbatch producers and users have found that UPES resin-based products provide them with the flexibility to use a single product for multiple resin systems.

Sustainability – As a single base resin for multiple resin systems, UPES resin can reduce the number of raw material changes, which can reduce the waste generation associated with material cleanouts between product runs.

Performance – UPES resin acts as a universal carrier resin for masterbatch additives used in both polyolefin and polystyrene products.

Cost – Inventory costs and transactional costs can be reduced by simplifying the number of additives needed to support multiple product streams.

Film Applications

In film applications, UPES resin enables improved processability, better prime conversion, and increased energy savings while providing customers with tougher, more durable film products.

Sustainability — improved processability; enhanced prime conversion; energy savings; less product loss; faster start-ups due to better bubble stability; recyclable end product and decreased environmental impact

Performance — improved efficiency in film manufacturing process; increased prime yield and capacity; increased machine time availability; optimizes colorant usage; enables faster form, fill and seal process; strengthens package integrity; lengthens shelf life of packaged products

Cost — savings related to downgauging, faster processing, ease of blending with polyolefins, no output/rate penalties and better performance, with no new equipment required
